Glen Fosslyn Tops $25,000

The Salter Family's Glen Fosslyn Droughtmaster Stud received solid support from new and repeat buyers at a wet Roma Sale Yards at their annual sale on Saturday.
Buyers from across Queensland and NSW purchased a total of 83 Bulls and 40 Commercial Heifers resulting in the Bulls averaging $4,193 with a record price for the stud of $25,000 and the Heifers selling to $650 to gross a healthy $373,500 with an overall clearance of 90%.
The record price was paid by Neil and Margaret Warne, Cedardale Droughtmaster Stud, Casino NSW, for Glen Fosslyn 05/318. The yellow 24 month-old, 740kg stongly polled son of their own bred sire Cedardale Credence II had an EMA of 124cm2, scrotal measurement of 41cm and fat cover of 8mm and 6mm at the P8 and Rib respectively.
Another polled bull in Glen Fosslyn 05/225, brought the second top money of $15,000 on account of DPI&F for use within their benchmarking and herd improvement project at their Swan's Lagoon Research Station south west of Ayr. The son of Glen Fosslyn 147 hit the scales at 794kg with growth EBV's of +3, +17 and +33 with a scrotal size EBV of +1.1 which is in the top 5% of the breed. In addition to 05/225, the DPI&F secured another six high performing sires to add to sire battery which already includes several high growth rate Glen Fosslyn sires.
Ed and Anna Bassett, Bassett Cattle Co, Jennavale, Roma selected an excellent draft of three bulls to average $6,833 with a top of $8,000 for a 792kg 23 month old son of Glen Fosslyn 147, Glen Fosslyn05/264, with growth EBV's in the top ten percentile of the breed.
Bradley Piggott, Christmas Creek Stud, Rolleston paid $7,000 for Glen Fosslyn 05/228 then $5,500 for yet another Glen Fosslyn 147 son in Glen Fosslyn 05/261. The McCormack Family, Clonlara Stud, Glenmorgan secured Lot 5, Glen Fosslyn 05/303 for $6,500 and Hastings and Sandra Donaldson, Medway Stud, Bogatungan paid $6,000 for Glen Fosslyn 05/238 who the heaviest bull in the draft hitting the scales at 854kg and with growth EBV's in the top 1% of the breed.
Long time buyers of Glen Fosslyn cattle were Don and Cathy Bates, Winathoola, Wallumbilla, returning to invest in another nine bulls at an average of $4,389 for a gross of $39,500.
Strong support also came from repeat buyers in Lochinvar Cattle Co, Augathella who purchased eight at an average of $3,438 and Braemar Investments, Mena Park, Blackall who took home 11 at an average of $3,227.
Australian Country Choice took advantage of the easier market later in the sale outlaying $38,500 to secure 13 bulls at an average of $2,960.
All 40 heifers were sold to David Sullivan and Family, Riverglen, Glenmorgan who propose to use the heifers in a cross breeding program.
